Pamuk is Turkey's best-selling writer; his work has sold 13 million books in 63 languages. His themes are often rooted in tensions between East and West, or tradition and secularism. His list of international prizes and honors, in addition to the Nobel, count in the dozens, including the International Dublin Literary Award, Legion d'honneur Officier, and 16 honorary doctorates - at last count. After Pamuk was awarded the Nobel Prize in 2006, Margaret Atwood recounted, "It would be difficult to conceive of a more perfect winner for our catastrophic times. Pamuk gives us what all novelists give us at their best: the truth. Not the truth of statistics, but the truth of human experience at a particular place, in a particular time." In 2004 at the time of its publication, Atwood describes Snow as "..an in-depth tour of the divided, hopeful, desolate, mystifying Turkish soul." Our copy is signed, inscribed to "Suzanne C____ and dated 2004 in Pamuk's hand. A penciled note states that Jeffrey Brown interviewed Pamuk for PBS at Politics and Prose, the well-known bookstore in Washington, D.C. An original copy of the New York Times book review by Margaret Atwood, published contemporaneously with Snow's publication in 2004, is included with the book. Book condition is fine, and the dust jacket is near fine with only minor shelf ware to edges - no markings or tears, and not price-clipped. See our photos.
